5 Common Mistakes New Reborn Doll Owners Make (And How to Avoid Them)

Starting your journey with reborn dolls is exciting. But we see the same mistakes come up again and again — and most of them can permanently damage your baby if you're not careful. Here are the five most common errors new owners make, and exactly how to avoid them.

1. Dressing Your Doll in Dark or Non-Colourfast Clothing

This is by far the most common and most devastating mistake. Dark fabrics — especially new denim, navy, red, and black — contain excess dye that leaches into silicone and vinyl. The result is permanent staining that cannot be removed.

How to avoid it: Always wash new clothing twice before putting it on your doll. Use a colour catcher sheet on the first wash — you'll be shocked how much dye runs. As a general rule, line dark outfits with a white cotton layer underneath. When in doubt, do the tissue test: rub a damp white tissue on the fabric. 4. Not Powdering Regularly

5. Handling With Dirty or Oily Hands

Lotion, hand sanitiser, cooking oils, perfume — all of these leave residues on your hands that transfer to the silicone surface. Over time, these chemicals can cause stickiness, discolouration, or a breakdown of the paint layer.

How to avoid it: Make it a habit to wash and thoroughly dry your hands before picking up your doll. It takes five seconds and makes a massive difference to the longevity of your baby's finish.
